Coloring Page Art- Isla’s Kitchen

When you visit Tulsa, you quickly learn that we have amazing restaurants. Our culinary creatives really know how to bring us the best cuisine from around the globe without having to leave Tulsa.

Even though we can dine at fine steak houses, or sample a Nordic smörgåsbord, sometimes we stick to our Oklahoma roots and love some southern staples.

Opening in January 2024, the newest restaurant from the Thompson Group restaurants, Isla’s Southern Provisions Kitchen is the newest downtown restaurant.

And where does Alexa’s Illustrations come in, you may ask? Any good local family restaurant needs a children’s menu filled with fun coloring items brought to life by a local artist. As someone who has visited many family restaurants and colored many pages with my own family, I was so ticked when the Wei-Haas Creative team reached out start this project. The instructions were ‘fill the page with Tulsa landmarks’ and ‘not boring’.

I loved illustrating every corner of the menu, from the big Buck Atom and the fireworks over the downtown baseball field. The best part of this project was printing out drafts along the way and watching my preschooler color in each piece. I could see in real time how a large crayon navigated the illustrations, how little hands scribbled, how the details could be improved. Such a fun way to work with my little studio assistant!

Even more of a bonus, the Connor’s Shop, attached to the restaurant, has some of my items stocked! There are tea towels, mugs, blankets, pillows, and more!
