Venue Art: Mayo Hotel

You are instantly transported to the 1920s when you visit the Mayo Hotel. An art deco jewel in the heart of downtown Tulsa, Oklahoma, the Mayo beams with elegance, sophistication, and charm.

The Mayo has been a favorite wedding venue among my clients. I have illustrated quite a handful of different takes and perspectives of the brick building over the years. These illustrations and paintings continue to be a favorite among couples year after year for licensing my art to use on all things for their event.

Couples have loved using my Mayo digital illustrations and watercolors as part of their invitations. I’ve seen the art proudly displayed on top of the formal invite, embossed as a complex texture to accompany an invitation suite, on an itinerary card to indicate a venue change between ceremony and reception, as an envelope liner to give guests a peek to see a glimpse of the venue and set the tone for the event, on signage and ceremony programs to proudly display the historic venue, and so much more!

The Mayo Hotel has been in the limelight recently as the filming location and home of the very famous Sylvester Stallone in the Tulsa King on Paramount. A quick warning, that the content of this show is not about weddings and is not for those with aversion to violence. It does portray Tulsa in a playful way, although a little inaccurate in how rural Tulsa is.

Side Note About the Show

I cannot get over the fact that they made downtown Tulsa so empty and that horses just wander the streets. I get that they filmed it during the pandemic and it was pretty empty at the time, but the horse that “wandered in from a nearby ranch” and patrols the downtown streets was definitely an outsider’s (big urban city) perspective of our southern city. I used to work downtown and can attest to the bustle of people frequenting the coffee shops during the day and the difficulty of finding street parking after 5 for the restaurants and events. And never did I see any animals wandering the streets!

Ok, rant over. Back to the Mayo! If you’re hosting an event at the Mayo and want to use custom art on your paper goods and signage, let me know! I have a variety available for licensing and am always creating something new that could be your perfect fit.
