Scissor-Tailed Fly Catcher Art Deco

Tulsa and art deco go hand in hand. I have heard a statistic that outside of NYC, Tulsa has the highest concentration of art deco architecture. Tulsa has a Deco District, that’s how deco we are! Makes sense since a lot of downtown was built in the 1920s during an oil rush. The lavish roaring 20s, plus the economic boom was a perfect mix for the creation of some of our favorite downtown buildings. Philcade, Union Depot, Philtower, Boston Methodist, and more.

Art deco has been making an appearance in the interior design space. One that I kept seeing over and over is the crane art deco wallpaper. So simple, pretty, geometric, yet natural. I wanted to create something based off this pattern that was as elegant, but more Oklahoman.

So, I created a repeating pattern using the Oklahoma state bird, the scissor-tailed fly catcher. This digital piece is crisp and colorful; elegantly geometric; classic yet Oklahoman. Currently, it is available in my shop as a beautiful throw pillow.

Next, I’m setting up a Spoonflower shop. Not quite ready to put on products yet, as I’ll need to order samples and create a few more patterns, but it is something that I am working on and I’m excited for this deco beauty to be the first pattern!

*Update 2023, the Spoonflower shop is UP and includes two color variations of this pattern in fabrics and wallpaper! Happy shopping!
