Guthrie, OK Mural - Walmart

Painting local and quirky landmarks is kind of my thing.

Earlier this summer, I was honored to be approached to be an artist for the Walmart Community Mural Program. Walmarts across the country are installing new murals that highlight their local communities and I was so pleased when store #108 in Guthrie, Oklahoma selected me to paint their mural.

Just north of OKC is Guthrie, the first state capitol, the location of the land run, the largest concentration of buildings on the historic national registry, the home of the US’s smallest national park. With all the inspiration of this historic town, I knew this piece would be amazing.

Painted at 1/10th the size, this watercolor painting is a blend of a sampling of some of the most iconic parts of town. The mix of architecture that is over 100 years old and natrual landscape (hello tiny park), shows off the first state capitol. It was then printed on vinyl and installed on site in the vestibule by the greeter.

Tulsans can hop in the car for a less than 2 hr ride to the historic town. I’d recommend visiting the Frontier Drugstore and The Oklahoma Territorial Museums, grabbing a meal at a local diner, swing by a local festival, and stop in the Walmart!
